Strengthening Nigeria–Türkiye Economic Ties

On Wednesday, 25 March 2026, the Nigeria–Türkiye Business Council (NTBC) paid a courtesy visit to the Nigerian Investment Promotion Commission (NIPC) in Abuja.

The NTBC team led by Ms. Uche Osoka, Director General NTBC, was received by Ms. Aisha Rimi, Executive Secretary/CEO of NIPC, and senior officials to explore strategic collaboration opportunities aimed at boosting investment and economic partnerships between Nigeria and Türkiye.

Key outcomes of the meeting included:

  • Presentation of the NTBC report of the Türkiye–Nigeria Government-to-Business (G2B) Roundtable held on the sidelines of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR state visit to Turkiye on 28th January 2026 in Ankara, Türkiye.
  • Discussion on potential areas of collaboration between NTBC and NIPC
  • Preparations for the Nigeria – Türkiye business forum proposed by the Turkiye Deputy Minister of Trade in Turkiye in January 2026
  • Discussion on strategies for strengthening Nigeria–Türkiye investment relations
  • Identification of practical approaches for the improvement of investor readiness for Nigerian businesses.

The visit to NIPC reinforces NTBC’s mission to enhance bilateral trade, investment facilitation, and economic cooperation in line with the Federal Government economic diplomacy agenda.

Strengthening Nigeria–Türkiye Postal Collaboration

The Nigeria–Türkiye Business Council (NTBC) paid a courtesy visit to the Nigerian Postal Services (NIPOST) on Wednesday, March 18, 2026.

Led by Ms. Uche Osoka, Director General NTBC, and esteemed members of the council, the delegation met with Mrs.Tola Odeyemi, Postmaster General/CEO, and senior officials of the Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST).

During the meeting, NTBC presented and discussed the Council’s report from the Türkiye–Nigeria Government-to-Business Roundtable held on the sidelines of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR state visit to Turkiye on 28th January 2026 in Ankara, Türkiye.

NTBC commended NIPOST’s ongoing transformation into a technology-driven institution supporting Nigeria’s digital economy.

Discussions focused on potential partnership between NIPOST & Türkiye’s PTT in postal modernization, e-commerce development, financial services, and technical capacity building.

The visit concluded with a commitment to deepen cooperation between NIPOST and Turkiye PTT, with NTBC serving as a strategic bridge to drive innovation and efficiency in Nigeria’s postal sector.

Strengthening Nigeria–Türkiye Collaboration in Livestock Development

On Thursday, 12th March 2026, the Nigeria–Türkiye Business Council (NTBC) paid a courtesy visit to the Federal Ministry of Livestock Development (FMLD) in Abuja.

The visit focused on strengthening institutional engagement and exploring strategic collaborations to modernize Nigeria’s livestock sector.

Led by Hon. Dele Kelvin Oye, Esq., Chairman NTBC, and accompanied by Ms. Uche Osoka, Director General NTBC and other esteemed members of the council the delegation met with H.E. Alhaji Idi Mukhtar Maiha, Honourable Minister of Livestock Development, and senior Ministry officials.

Discussions revolved around opportunities in:

  • Livestock breeding & genetic improvement
  • Dairy production & processing
  • Feed & fodder systems
  • Veterinary services & vaccine development
  • Cold-chain logistics & livestock processing
  • Leather & by-product value chains

During the meeting, the NTBC delegation also presented and discussed the Council’s report from the Türkiye–Nigeria Government-to-Business Roundtable held on the sidelines of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR state visit to Turkiye on 28th January 2026 at the JW Marriott Hotel, Ankara, Türkiye.

The report highlighted key outcomes from the roundtable, including priority investment areas and opportunities for enhanced cooperation between government institutions and private sector stakeholders, including Nigeria’s livestock development agenda.

The visit concluded with an agreement on strategic collaboration to transform Nigeria’s livestock sector, followed by a photo session to commemorate the visit.

The Nigeria–Türkiye Business Council (NTBC) paid a courtesy visit to an esteemed member & newly appointed Chairman of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) H.E Amb. Ismail Abba Yusuf

The NTBC wishes His Excellency Amb. Ismail Abba Yusuf, a successful tenure in leading the commission.

NTBC Explores Nigeria–Türkiye Poultry Sector Collaboration with the Poultry Association of Nigeria (PAN) Leadership

The Nigeria-Türkiye Business Council (NTBC) recently met with the Vice President of the Poultry Association of Nigeria (PAN), Prince Yandev Vincent Amaabi, to explore ways to boost the poultry industry, viewing Türkiye as a potential partner. Accompanied by Ms. Tracy Dzungwe and Mr. Emmanuel Akaade, the meeting provided an opportunity for productive discussions on collaboration within the sector.

NTBC is working to strengthen agribusiness ties between Nigeria and Türkiye, focusing on the poultry sector.

The meeting centered on three key areas: assessing the needs of local poultry farmers, sourcing Turkish technology for feed production, and building capacity through technical knowledge exchange.

With both the Nigerian and Türkiye governments eager to collaborate, NTBC is pushing to bring Turkish agricultural technology to Nigerian farmers, with matchmaking initiatives on the horizon.

Nigeria–Türkiye Business Council (NTBC) and Turkish Airlines Commence Strategic Partnership

The Nigeria–Türkiye Business Council recently held a productive meeting at the Abuja regional office where both organizations agreed to go into partnership and collaboration on strengthening trade facilitation and improved connectivity for the Nigerian business sector.

Key Highlights

  • Tailored Packages for SMEs & Corporates
    Additional baggage allowance & structured corporate travel solutions will be available through the corporate membership programme designed for different business categories needs. While SMEs would benefit largely from improved baggage support, larger organisations could take advantage of structured corporate travel solutions such as the Turkish Airlines Corporate Club, designed to improve efficiency and manage travel costs more effectively.
  • Increase in flight frequency from Abuja
    A notable update from the discussions was the planned increase in flight frequency in Abuja to six operating days per week. This development will provide greater flexibility and improved connectivity for business travelers.
  • Stopover Incentives
    There was also discussion around structured Istanbul stopover programs, which could add value for business travelers transiting through Türkiye and enhance the overall travel experience.
  • Collaboration with NTBC on the 1st Abuja Turkish Airlines Golf Tournament 2026
    As part of strengthening corporate and community engagement, the airline announced its first Golf Tournament in Abuja, scheduled for May 2026. Discussions were held on how NTBC can collaborate to ensure strong business community participation and visibility at the event.
  • Reducing Travel Costs for SMEs
    One of the major concerns raised was the high cost of tickets and excess baggage, which continues to affect Nigerian traders—especially SMEs. Both parties explored the possibility of introducing incentive-based arrangements that would offer additional baggage allowances and better travel benefits. The goal is simple: reduce costs for businesses while increasing passenger traffic for the airline.
  • Layover Concerns & E-Visa Advocacy
    Extended layovers and current visa challenges were openly discussed. The Council emphasized the importance of reinstating the Turkish e-visa system to simplify travel and reduce delays. Continued diplomatic engagement and policy improvements will be key to resolving these issues and making movement between both countries smoother.

The Council remains committed to building partnerships that deliver practical benefits and deepen economic ties between Nigeria and Türkiye.

NTBC Chairman visits Türkiye embassy to present Türkiye-Nigeria Business Roundtable outcomes

The Chairman of the Nigeria–Türkiye Business Council (NTBC), Hon. Dele Kelvin Oye, accompanied by the Director-General, Ms. Uche Osoka, paid a visit to the Turkish Ambassador, H.E. Amb. Mehmet Poroy, to debrief the Ambassador on the outcomes of the Türkiye–Nigeria Business Roundtable held in Ankara on the sidelines of the State Visit of His Excellency President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, to Türkiye, and to present the report of the meeting

The Roundtable which had in attendance, 35+ eminient Turkiye business leaders was organised by the Republic of Türkiye Ministry of Trade and the Foreign Economic Relations Board (DEİK), in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Trade Industry and Investment Nigeria (FMTII), the Nigeria–Türkiye Business Council (NTBC), and the Nigerian Investment Promotion Commission (NIPC).

The meeting facilitated discussions centred on practical follow-up steps aimed at deepening bilateral trade relations and expanding trade relations along the lines of investment, partnership & joint ventures in infrastructure, manufacturing, technology transfer and many others between both countries.

A highlight of the meeting was the proposal by Hon. Mahmut Gürcan, Deputy Minister of Trade of Türkiye, for a Nigeria–Türkiye Business Forum to he held in Nigeria this year (2026)

Türkiye-Nigeria Government to Business (G2B) Roundtable, 28 January 2026, Ankara, Türkiye

The agenda of the state visit to Türkiye by President Bola Ahmed GCFR on 27 – 28 January 2026 included a Government to Business (G2B) Roundtable meeting.

Held at the JW Marriot Hotel, Ankara, on Wednesday, 28 January 2026, the meeting was organized by the Türkiye Ministry of Trade and the Foreign Economic Relations Board of Türkiye (DEIK) in coordination with the Federal Ministry of Industry Trade and Investment (FMITI), Nigeria Investment Promotion Council (NIPC), and the Nigeria-Türkiye Business Council (NTBC)

Key participants from both countries included ministers, agency heads, and senior private sector representatives from construction, energy, agriculture, healthcare, manufacturing, and oil & gas sectors.

Setting the tone for the high-level meeting, the Chairman of DEIK/ Türkiye- Nigeria Business Council (TNBC) Mr. Osman Aksoy, in his welcome remarks, emphasised the historic and growing economic ties between Nigeria and Türkiye with potential in sectors such as construction, energy, agriculture, and textiles.

In his welcome remarks, Hon. Dele Kelvin Oye, Chairman, Nigeria-Türkiye Business Council (NTBC) called for actionable strategies focused on industrial integration, local production, and long-term investment.

He pointed out that Nigeria’s membership in the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) is a key advantage to Türkiye businesses with export hubs in Nigeria, as it offers access to a market of 1.3 billion people in the African Continent and China which recently signed free trade agreements in 53 African countries.

Ms. Aisha Rimi, CEO of the Nigeria Investment Promotion Commission (NIPC), presented Nigeria’s investment landscape, highlighting success stories. She emphasized the importance of Türkiye businesses registering with NIPC in order to enjoy the commission’s support and facilitation during the process of onboarding their businesses in Nigeria.

The country presentation was followed by the self-introduction/presentations by participating companies from both countries.

Both countries’ government representatives took turns to provide more insight into the benefits of partnership and joint ventures between Nigeria and Türkiye.

Emphasising Türkiye’s readiness in upscaling the existing economic relations, Hon. Mahmut Gürcan, Türkiye’s Deputy Minister of Trade proposed a Nigeria-Türkiye Business Forum to be held in Nigeria.

Hon. Sen. John Owan Enoh, Nigeria’s Minister of State for Industry, Trade and Investment, expressed strong mutual interest in deepening economic relations.

He informed the meeting that Nigeria is currently embarking on one of the most consequential economic reform cycles in modern history and transitioning from distortion to discipline.

He listed priority sectors for Turkiye investment and partnership as manufacturing and industrial processing, encouraging investment in the textile sector, one of Turkiye’s strong areas of trade, which is currently being revamped. Other priority areas listed were energy & power infrastructure, solid minerals & mining, agriculture & agro-processing, infrastructure, and EPC opportunities

His presentation ended with a call to investors into long-term local manufacturing partnerships, joint ventures, technology transfer, industrial park development,export oriented production in Nigeria, a reformed, stabilising, and opportunity rich economy

Amb. Sola Enikanolaiye, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Foreign Affairs and International Relations informed the meeting that his role was to note the actionable points raised during the meeting, advise, and ensure follow-up from the Nigerian side in order to ensure ease of doing business with Nigeria.

Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairman/CEO of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), led Nigerian students resident in Türkiye to the meeting and encouraged the participating Türkiye businesses to take advantage of their knowledge skill set by offering them employment as Türkiye’s contribution to capacity building and knowledge transfer which is an important aspect of economic relations.

Rounding off government presentations, H.E. Mr. Wale Edun, Honourable Minister of Finance & Coordinating Minister of the Economy pointed out that the inclusion of the business round table on the Presidential visit agenda, and the strong government representation through the participation of the heads of the government trade and investment agencies underscored Nigeria’s commitment to deepening economic relations with Türkiye. It also demonstrates Nigeria’s whole-of-government approach to international relations.

He addressed Turkish business concerns, assuring them of the government’s determination to remove impediments, ensure ease of doing business, and provide investment security.

The round table ended with a family photograph and a B2B networking session.
