The Nigeria–Türkiye Business Council recently held a productive meeting at the Abuja regional office where both organizations agreed to go into partnership and collaboration on strengthening trade facilitation and improved connectivity for the Nigerian business sector.
Key Highlights
- Tailored Packages for SMEs & Corporates
Additional baggage allowance & structured corporate travel solutions will be available through the corporate membership programme designed for different business categories needs. While SMEs would benefit largely from improved baggage support, larger organisations could take advantage of structured corporate travel solutions such as the Turkish Airlines Corporate Club, designed to improve efficiency and manage travel costs more effectively. - Increase in flight frequency from Abuja
A notable update from the discussions was the planned increase in flight frequency in Abuja to six operating days per week. This development will provide greater flexibility and improved connectivity for business travelers. - Stopover Incentives
There was also discussion around structured Istanbul stopover programs, which could add value for business travelers transiting through Türkiye and enhance the overall travel experience. - Collaboration with NTBC on the 1st Abuja Turkish Airlines Golf Tournament 2026
As part of strengthening corporate and community engagement, the airline announced its first Golf Tournament in Abuja, scheduled for May 2026. Discussions were held on how NTBC can collaborate to ensure strong business community participation and visibility at the event. - Reducing Travel Costs for SMEs
One of the major concerns raised was the high cost of tickets and excess baggage, which continues to affect Nigerian traders—especially SMEs. Both parties explored the possibility of introducing incentive-based arrangements that would offer additional baggage allowances and better travel benefits. The goal is simple: reduce costs for businesses while increasing passenger traffic for the airline. - Layover Concerns & E-Visa Advocacy
Extended layovers and current visa challenges were openly discussed. The Council emphasized the importance of reinstating the Turkish e-visa system to simplify travel and reduce delays. Continued diplomatic engagement and policy improvements will be key to resolving these issues and making movement between both countries smoother.
The Council remains committed to building partnerships that deliver practical benefits and deepen economic ties between Nigeria and Türkiye.
